About Us
We are a group of dedicated volunteers, and Haunted House Enthusiasts. We are created a non-profit because we wish to continue providing entertaining recreational events for the community, but need to be assured the funds raised will be used to benefit the community.
We are a completely NON-RELIGIOUS organization, and unlike many nonprofits, We will not try to impose our individual belief systems onto our members, events, or project benifactors.
In the past several years, we have created and refined events for Citrus County Parks and Recreation. They would provide us a budget, and they kept the money from admissions, which was placed in the county's general fund. We had no control over how the money was used. Dispite our success in 2007, and letters of comendation for our outstanding efforts, In October, 2008, the new "Management" began trying to control how we put on our annual haunted house, we were unable to access nearly half the funds the county budgeted for us, creative control over the advertising was stripped from us, the County ran their advertisements in the Citrus County Chronicle with improper logos, artwork, and fonts. Due to this management change work conditions and relations with the County became very unfriendly. We found the last minute interference with an event we had been planning for a year to be unacceptable.
Fast Forward.. We decided we couldn't let our events die, so we began thinking about how we could keep them alive, with or without the county, and how we could make sure the funds raised went back to improve the community as a whole.
By creating a legal enity for our group, we are able to continue these events, be it in a venue belonging to the county, or to another venue, and control how the raised funds are used to improve the community.
In January 2009 we started the process to form as a Florida Non-Profit corporation. "Florida Entertainment And Recreation Volunteers, Inc." was born on March 10th, 2009. The county transfered "Most" of the haunted house materials and props to us, and we started looking for a place to have our 2009 event.
We struck a deal with the Crystal River Preserve State Park, and the "Friends" orginization. The event was a success, and demonstrates that it is the PEOPLE of our group that make our events work.
